First Day of Preschool!!

Jack and Avery started preschool today.  We've been talking about it so much in anticipation that the whole family was excited for them to start.  The program we found has a parent education component to it so I attend with them (which also helps keep the costs down for the attendees).  I get to go sit with grown-ups for 45 minutes every other week which is fun.  The door stays open so the kids can come check in if they need to.  Avery came in to visit me a few times and Jack hopped in and out of the room a few times to show me some cool tools he found.

Backpacks on and ready to get in the car.
My backpack is too big for me?  Naahhhhhh!
Jack being a goofball with a teething toy he discovered in his toy box in his bedroom
Jack eyeing the big toys on the way into class.  He did well and passed by them without having a hissy fit.  I was impressed.
Avery was a little unsure at first and wanted to hold my hand.  Once she warmed up to her surroundings and the new people, she did great.  I sat with Jack at the snack table for several minutes and watched Avery sit by herself and play with playdough alongside one of the teachers.  She was perfectly content to be by herself and doing her own thing.
Jack didn't really need me by his side as long as he could come find me easily.  The issue with him is keeping him out of danger or out of mischief.

Avery making dots on a piece of paper
This water table had apples and sponges in it.  You were supposed to wash the apples with the sponge and soapy water.  Jack thinks apples are for eating, which is what he did.  The teacher had to remove a few apples after Jack was done playing.

 Snack time!

Play-Doh and Dog Poop....

This gives me the giggles every time I watch it.  Jack eventually says the word, Play-Doh, for me.  He calls it "pah-day-doh".  At the 45 second mark, Avery says the most hilarious thing (in my opinion), watch and listen!!

It's best to double-click on the video and view it on youtube because blogger cuts off part of the image and you can't see all of Avery through some of the video.

A Toast to Grandma!!

We spent the day with family toasting my Great Grandmother on her birthday.  She was born 115 years ago today.  She was an amazing woman for so many reasons, not the least of which was raising my mother and her sister when their mother was unable to do so.  She died when I was 8 years old but I have wonderful memories of her. She always called us her "little chickadees" and would send us for her purse to give us money when we headed into town with Mom or Dad.  I never heard a cross word uttered from her mouth.  She was sweetness and light and full of love.  Anyway, my mom and aunt had her grave marker redone to reflect the woman she was.  We all met up at the cemetery to toast her life and her memory!  Happy Birthday Grandma Melde!  We miss you!!

Ring Around The Rosie!

Jack and Avery have started playing with each other so much more lately.  It seems like up until recently, they'd play with each other if I was involved in some way.  Now, they will play games together and pretend and tell each other stories.

Today it was Ring Around The Rosie.  The second verse is, "Cows are in the meadow eating buttercups, thunder, lightening, we all stand up!"  Jack says, "lunder" for thunder.
